In 2002, UF begins leading six other universities under a $15 million NASA grant to work on a five-year space research initiative. The spirit of collaboration continues with the country of Spain, as UF researchers work to create the world's largest single-aperture optical telescope and continue UF's mission to drive research forward for a better world.
In 2005, UF becomes a certified audubon cooperative sanctuary for environmental and wildlife management, resource conservation, environmental education, waste management and outreach. But the university's commitment to the planet didn't stop there; in 2006, UF creates the Office of Sustainability, committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2025.
At UF, our students utilize more than 200 research, service and education centers, bureaus and institutes. With some of the most future-focused facilities led by some of the best minds in their fields, it's no wonder UF is consistently ranked among the nation's top universities. Rankings like second among Forbes "Best Value Public Colleges" (2016) and second in Kiplinger's 'Best Values in Public Colleges' (2015) are a result of UF's commitment to provide the highest quality education at the best value.
The UF Office of Admissions offers official campus tours Monday through Friday (except for state and university holidays) at the Welcome Center, located at 737 Reitz Union Drive. Visitors should park in the parking garage at the Welcome Center (there is a $5.00 charge). Campus tours for prospective students begin with a 30-minute information session followed by a 90-minute walking tour led by current students. Typically there are two tours offered each day. However, please view the calendar for all available dates and times, as our schedule may change to accommodate a higher volume of visitors. Sign up for a campus tour led by one of our student cicerones. See the world like they do, as Gators.
The University of Florida's mission is fourfold - teaching, research, scholarship and service. Our students, faculty and staff embrace the ideal of sharing the benefits of our research and knowledge for the public good. UF serves the state, the nation and world by contributing to a well-qualified and broadly diverse citizenry, leadership and workforce. In that spirit, the university offers a variety of programs in which Gators can engage with the community and serve as good and supportive partners.
